Starbright’s Sparkling New Website!

Sometimes there’s news at Starbright Floral Design that we just have to share! With great anticipation, we’re thrilled to announce that after many late nights and months of work behind the scenes, we’ve fully refreshed and enhanced our website to enchant you. We realize that updates about websites in NYC may not be what you’ve come to our blog to read about, so let us explain just a little bit what this means for you and why we’re overjoyed!

One of the most frequent concerns we’ve heard from our beloved friends and clients is that ordering flowers online can be a nightmare. Between the layout of the websites to the ability to find just the right type of floral composition, we understood this angst and wanted to be a leader in our industry in New York City to right this wrong.

We are incredibly proud of our refreshed website!
We are incredibly proud of our refreshed website!

It wasn’t easy! But, with our incredible team at Starbright, we were able to create what we humbly think is a beautiful website, worthy of sighing over with delight. We are excited to invite you to visit our new site and see how indulgent ordering flowers can be. Our graphics were created to be as alluring as our bouquets and we hope that you revel in this as an immersive experience.

Everyone at Starbright wanted to make sure that the website was easy to use and that favorite flowers were a breeze to find. We crafted specialty sections throughout the site, like our Autumn Collection that features all of the luxury seasonal florals that are overflowing in our flower and plant emporium.

Our Occasions menu at the top of the site makes finding an impeccable stunning floral composition to send your thoughts and feelings as easy as a *click* 1-2-3. Our Designer Collections includes our Cut Orchid Boutique which enhances every setting, the Ikebana Designs that has endless admirers and our Succulent Collection which is as intriguing as it is whimsical. We believe you’ll be inspired by the incredible flower and plant offerings that you may end up wanting to send them all, and of course we at Starbright will be ready to answer the call!

BOO-tiful Bouquets for Halloween!

If there’s one thing we know at Starbright Floral Design, it’s how to make a stunning statement with flowers and Halloween is no exception! We love getting into the Halloween spirit here in NYC and wanted to share some inspiration with you on how to use flowers, pumpkins and a few well-placed props to give your decor that pop that will make it look like it might go bump in the night…

Pumpkins and Halloween are perfect together. We strive to create an eerie elegance in our Halloween displays and pumpkins are a fantastic foil that allow us to do just that. Using them to enhance our floral compositions is one of our favorite ways to evoke that spooky spirit that everyone is searching for this time of year, in New York City and beyond.

The rich coloring of pumpkins provides a great background for flowers and greenery that we at Starbright relish. Lush succulents and king protea flowers brighten up this humble gourd and transform it into a festive Halloween centerpiece. We framed this pumpkin with harvest corn to evoke a nostalgic yet refined ambiance, wonderful for the autumn season.

sfd6

Twilight lavender calla lily flowers create a vivid exclamation point on our scary squash, while the draped succulents known as amaranthus give a creepy-crawly sensation as they ooze down the pumpkin’s side. A burst of color through the hypericum berries on the side evoke the orange of the pumpkin while making you wonder if they are poisoned or not.

sfd1

But not all pumpkins need to be scary! We carved one up to give it a friendly grin and added a mix of festive fall flowers including dahlias to give the jack o’lantern a perfect coif. Part of the elegance of this floral composition is hidden by the pumpkin itself, for a vase can be stored inside the pumpkin and filled with fresh water to keep your flowers looking fresher for much longer.

sfd2

At Starbright, we love to delight our clients with the unexpected and so we had a wonderful time building this luscious composition. We combined a traditional gourd with an eccentric one to highlight the unique attributes of the green squash. The fun sprays of verdant branches built heightened interest in this composition, with the succulents softening the entire look.

sfd5

One of our clients was looking for something to spook on sight and we had just the special visitor to liven up an otherwise friendly bouquet. A spray of mango toned calla lilies echoed the spiderwebs that wove their way through the flower composition of calla lilies and euphorbia. We’re sure that whoever received this bouquet was given quite a fright!

sfd3

Halloween is one of Starbright’s favorite times to feature whimsical components in our compositions to make a spooky statement. If you’ve carved your pumpkins and hung up the decorations but there’s still something missing, stop by our shop in Manhattan on Halloween. You’ll be able to find that missing floral masterpiece while seeing the staff of Starbright dressed up for the day. We’ll be giving away candy while we create chilling delights!

Starbright Helps “Petal It Forward” in NYC

On Wednesday, Starbright Floral Design was thrilled to be part of the second annual Petal It Forward, a pop-up, surprise event in Manhattan where 4,400 floral bouquets were given away in bunches of two, to delight commuters. One flower composition was for them to keep and the other was for them to “Petal It Forward” and gift it to someone whose day they wanted to brighten in NYC, whoever that might be. There’s nothing like the fresh beauty of flowers to make someone’s day!

Petal It Forward was organized by the Society of American Florists (SAF), which is the national trade association to the floral industry, representing all segments, including growers, wholesalers and florists, like Starbright. We are thrilled to have been a member of SAF for more than a decade and love working with them to enhance the community in New York City through wonderful events like this.

pif1
Starbright’s team of “Happiness Ambassadors” for Petal It Forward.

Petal It Forward was inspired by research from Rutgers University which found that while 80 percent of people say flowers make them happy, 88 percent said that giving flowers to someone else makes them happy. Knowing that, Petal It Forward made many people’s day throughout NYC this week!

Starbright was honored to be asked to participate as “Happiness Ambassadors” in Petal it Forward — a role that we were only too delighted to fill. As Happiness Ambassadors, we gave away thousands of flowers from 7 AM – 11 AM in NYC, but we were up and getting ready since 4 AM, because we wanted to be fully prepared to make everyone in New York City smile! Everyone at Starbright was delighted to enjoy the morning with our fellow New Yorkers and see how happy they were to be the recipient of unexpected joy in their day.

Starbright delighted people passing by with beautiful bouquets.

While as Happiness Ambassadors we did our very best to brighten everyone’s day in Manhattan, it wasn’t just in NYC that Petal It Forward was taking place. In 225 cities in all 50 states, Petal It Forward was spreading happiness through 256 local events to shower the country in flowers. Starbright was thrilled to be part of this wonderful day.

Social media was abuzz with the the #petalitforward chatter and recipients posted photos of their beautiful flowers and the gifting of the other bouquet. This multiplying effect of being able to share the joy of beautiful flowers with others is one of our favorite things at Starbright, making Petal It Forward one of the most beloved events in our year.

We had a wonderful time with our friends from the SAF and everyone at Holland America Flowers who graciously donated the blooms to be used in New York City and the folks from Delaware Valley Floral Group, who arranged for the transportation of the thousands of flowers to Manhattan.

If we didn’t see you this year, we hope to next year! With Petal It Forward being such a success, plans are already underway for 2017 and we are looking forward to spreading joy and happiness throughout New York City once again.

Starbright Floral Design has been spreading beauty through blossoms in New York City and beyond for over two decades. It is our honor and delight to thrill you with breathtaking floral compositions each and everytime.

As a full-service florist with a sweeping emporium located in Chelsea, you’ll find that Starbright is overflowing with fresh flowers, orchids, plants and so much more.

We understand that sometimes the only way to convey your thoughts and wishes is through flowers, so we offer same-day delivery in Manhattan, all of New York City and beyond.

Our floral designers and innovators are some of the best in the business. Starbright is honored to have earned the nickname “The Official Florist of the City that Never Sleeps” by over 200 concierges throughout NYC. We love to live up to that sobriquet by always going above and beyond for our friends and clients by ensuring that each floral bouquet is a magnificent creation.

We would be delighted if you visited us online or in our store and would love to make your floral dreams come true!

Warm regards from all of us at Starbright, “The Official Florist of the City That Never Sleeps”.

Behind the Scenes at Starbright

With Starbright Floral Design out and about at events in New York City every day, we wanted to share with our dear friends how the magic is made. Founded 22 years ago in NYC, Starbright started out with the mission to be the greatest florist in the City that Never Sleeps. Over two decades later, we can say with great happiness that we are still chasing that dream every day, and are honored to work with over 200 concierges in Manhattan who heartily recommend us to their guests and clients.

Starbright's beautiful creations.
Starbright’s beautiful creations.

But where do we craft our intricate designs, and who are the elves that create the magic in our New York City flagship shop? We wanted to throw back the curtain and introduce our incredible floral designers, who we think are the best in the business.

Starbright Floral Design has 17 designers working full-time to create lush, floral masterpieces. Our staff of over 70 people ensures that each flower delivery gets to just the right place and is always on time. Our days are busy and overflowing with flowers because we have an average of 250 floral deliveries going out each day in addition to being the florist for an average of 6 events each day. Starbright is having its best year yet and it is also our 22nd year of consecutive growth. We’re thrilled that we get to bedeck Manhattan in flowers and wanted to share what we’ve been up to recently.

Starbright carefully crafts each beautiful bouquet.

The events where Starbright’s floral creations appear vary from black tie galas and fundraisers to celebrating a 111th birthday at the Pierre Hotel. We were delighted to beflower Fashion Week in NYC this year and of course, we love our work as a corporate florist.

One of our upcoming events is for a law firm client who requested that Starbright enhance the United Nations Delegates Dining Room for a private meeting. Later this week we will be collaborating with Macy’s Herald Square in NYC to provide blooms as they start to prepare for the holiday season crush.

While Starbright is delighted to be the florist for incredibly elegant and festive events in Manhattan, one of our priorities is always giving back to our community in New York City. This week we are proud to be a sponsor for the 31st Annual Gala of Answer the Call at Cipriani, which provides assistance to the widows and children of first responders of NYC.

Starbright's team is dedicated to giving back to NYC.

Additionally, we were honored to have been called on by the American Red Cross to fill the Museum of Natural History with flowers for the 2016 Gala, Heroes Among Us.

With so many events and floral masterpieces to create, there’s only one way Starbright could do it all. It’s thanks to our incredible team of floral designers, inspirers, dreamers and doers that we’ve been able to come this far as a firm. And together — who knows what the future may hold. We hope to see you soon at an event that has Starbright’s impeccable blooms!

We hope our blooms brighten your day!

Getting ready for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! How are you dressing up your table?

What's on your table?
What’s on your table?

Whether your’e planning the traditional turkey or untraditional take-out, why not get the party started with a festive atmosphere? While the family, the friends, the food, and the football may be Thanksgivings main attractions, it’s amazing what a few additional decorations can do to put people into the holiday mood. Here at Starbright Floral Design we’ve had over twenty years of experience helping hosts and hostesses in New York City find just the right floral spin for their parties. Here are some of our favorites :

1. The Centerpiece

There’s no doubt that the main attraction on any Thanksgiving table is the food. All manner of dishes – roasted, baked, broiled and steamed – somehow need to squeeze onto a table between the place settings. While all the delicious food is a sight for hungry eyes, a floral element will keep the mood going even after the food is all gone. In past posts, Getting Back to Happiness and Scent and Memory – Starbright explored studies that tested the effects flowers have on mood and memory. The findings were pretty conclusive and crucial for any host or hostess to keep in mind. Not only do flowers make people smile more often, they also tend to make experiences more memorable (especially for your elderly guests).

When you’re planning florals for the table, begin with how much room there will be, what the color theme is, and what kind of style is preferred.

Some ideas to consider :

Centerpiece
Roses, dahlia, hydrangea and calla lilies

Long and low arrangements are fantastic for a rectangular table. These arrangements look great when they’re filled with lush, colored flowers with a lot of texture.

Walk on an Autumn Day

If you have a more intimate evening planned, an arrangement in a square vase, like the one above, can pack the same amount of presence as it’s long and low cousin. The best part, these centerpieces are still low enough that they won’t get in the way of conversation.

Check out our event gallery for more inspiration

2. Place Cards

Hosting a party can seem intimidating. One of the tips we often share with nervous dinner party planners is the power of a name card. A hostess or host’s duty is primarily to make their guests feel welcome – their ultimate tool for accomplishing this? A little place card that helps guests identify their “space” for the evening. Whether the seats are assigned or open to whoever lands there first, guests will appreciate the chance to mark their spot for the evening.

In the twenty plus years that Starbright has been working in the floral industry, we’ve seen all manner of fun place card holders. Some of our favorite techniques have involved holding the cards up in the quills of a pincushion protea, between the lobes of a living succulent, or cleverly attached to apples or mini pumpkins.

Matching the cardholders to the centerpiece will keep things looking consistent.

3. Around the House

It can also be fun to play with placing other floral elements around the house. Bud Vases like the below, can be filled with flowers that match you centerpieces and set around the home.

Bud Vases
Bud Vases are a great way to subtly stretch your floral theme beyond the dining room.

Or for the traditionalists – the true symbol of the season, a cornucopia, is a great way to dress up a coffee table of sideboard.

Here in New York City, it’s easy to forget about the fields that have been harvested, the geese migrating south for the winter, or the smell of leaves. One of the best ways to remind people of the season is with a fall wreath to greet guests at the door. We like to welcome our seasonal visitors in a BIG way!

Whatever your theme or floral strategy – Starbright Floral Design is looking forward to helping you dress up your dinner!

Having a Corporate Flower Policy

Flowers are great for business!
Flowers bring appreciation, create strong bonds and boost morale.

Are you in Human Resources?  Perhaps an Office Manager? Perhaps you are the owner of a small to medium-sized firm?

Does your company like to send gifts to clients and employees alike?  Is it a cost that is outside of your normal budgets and you cannot seem to get a handle on how much money is being spent on flowers and related gifts?  If so, read on!

Starbright Floral Design (www.starflor.com) has helped many companies organize their gift giving so that it is both fair and a controlled expense.  Our clients send the occasion-appropriate gift and they always do so with great savings.  Here  is what you need to do:

  1. Pick ONE florist to do all your business with.  We would like it to be Starbright, but even if it is not, you still want to use one source and become one florist’s good customer.  It makes no sense to go to the yellow pages or to the  internet and say “gee, I wonder which florist I will pick today”.  By having one vendor you know that this person will take care of you.  You are an important client to the florist and you will get a few extra flowers, an upgrade and even issues that arise are more likely to be resolved in your favor.
  2. Standardize your occasions (both for employees and clients).  Do you want  to send gifts for maternity? sympathy? promotion? anniversary? get well? birthday?  If you know in advance what occasions automatically call for a flower gift, then there is no thought involved (should we do it? should we not?).  It is a task that has been pre-decided, delegated and the vendor has been pre-selected.
  3. Do you classify your team?  Executives, front line employees, new hires, etc. Do you want to plan on a certain expense for floral gifts based on an employees title?
  4. What about budgets? Typically in a Flower Policy, you will see something like: Sympathy – $125, Births – $75, Get Well – $50 and so on.
  5. You may also want to consider other offerings besides flowers that your local florist may have like Fruit and Gourmet Baskets, Plants, Orchids, Stuffed Animals, Balloons, and so much more.  The greater the specificity in your policy the more standardize the procedure becomes and the greater the chances of success.

Flowers are a great way to boost employee morale and a Flower Policy will take the guess-work out of the equation.  Oh! There is one added benefit – EVERYONE gets treated equally!  Imagine if one assistant sends a $75 get-well arrangement and the next assistant a $40 one! Employees talk… Employees wonder… Flower Policies are great!

Now that you have decided that you need a flower policy all of us at Starbright will be thrilled to help you write one and to work with you so that your program becomes a success.  We have helped many small and large, local and international organizations benefit from our experience  in this area.  Whenever  you have a free moment, please feel free to visit our website at www.starflor.com or our gift-giving portal at www.starbrightnyc.com.  All of us at Starbright will be thrilled to have the opportunity to be of service to you.

With our warmest regards,

Starbright Floral Design is Back in the Blogosphere…

Visit Starbright for Bright Fall Sunshine
There are many bright colors available year-round... These are just some of them!

Hello Friends!

After a long hiatus from our blog and as our scribes grew stale, we needed to jump-start our adventure all over again.  I wanted to title this entry “Starbright is Back” but that would not have been accurate as we never went away.  Our amazing flowers have been around all year-long and our decor has graced more venues than you can possibly imagine.  We have really had a fun year so far.

So much fun in fact that while we did not forget to blog, the truth is that we lost our stride.  Our fingers clamped up and the writing side of our brain stopped thinking (or writing what we thought!).  Anyways, here we are and  I almost would  like to take a moment to reintroduce ourselves, who we are and what we do….

Starbright Floral Design (www.starflor.com) was started in 1994 fifteen years ago as a premier floral provider to the special event and hospitality markets of New York City.  Since then we have grown to offer world-wide delivery of flowers, plants, orchids and gifts of all  sorts.  We have  won many awards and  accolades (both local and national), but what we are the most proud of is the reviews that you will see about Starbright online.

If you  go to Citysearch, Yelp or even Google, you will see that we are one of the most reviewed florists nationally and certainly the most reviewed in Manhattan.

Stay tuned for many great articles that are getting ready to come down the pike.  In the meantime, if you would  like to send someone amazing flowers give  us a call at 1-800-520-8999.  Or you can visit our website at www.starflor. com.  We would love to hear from you and help in every way that we can.

Many thanks to all our friends and  clients.  We will always look forward to being of service.

Warm regards,

The  Official Florist.

Starbright Floral Design – The Official Florist of the City that Never Sleeps

We are  located in the heart of New York City’s Historic Flower District.  On 28th Street, in Chelsea – between 6th and 7th Avenue.

Starbright Exclusives…

Our new designs are here! Introducing the Starbright Exclusives…

We invite you to visit our website at www.starflor.com and once on our site click on the giant “G” for gifts.  There is an entire section devoted to Starbright Exclusives.  (It is listed on the top left).  In this section you will see new, modern and unique gift ideas that were created at our own design table.

Apple Lime Ice

These gift selections are not part of a mass catalog that any FTD-type florist can recreate.  Rather they are bespoke and created with individuality and to your taste.  The Starbright Exclusives section is a line of floral gifts that is available in New York City (within our own delivery area) and in most major markets where  we have developed strong partnerships with florists that adhere  to the same principles of design and customer service that we do.  This is a group of stores that has developed a code of standards that exceeds the typical flowers by wire environment.  By placing your flower order with us, you know that your request is in great hands and your gift will always be delivered just as you requested. Click on THIS LINK to see all our unique designs.

What is even more  fun, is that as our designs are being rolled out we are giving our clients the opportunity to name the arrangements!  Every time we are about to add a design to our collection, we will post the photo on our Facebook page and we will ask our fans (over 1600 at the present moment) to submit their ideas of  what we should call each composition.  Names have been created like “Purpleberry Lady”, “Orchid Alleycat” and “Apple Lime Ice” and they have all come from our friends and fans.

Exotic orchids, amazing calla lillies, elegant presentations of spring flowers and the most modern presentations imaginable are all there.  Have a look at our collection (CLICK HERE) and have a look.  We hope you find the presentations to be both refreshing and an interesting alternative  to common flowers!

Starbright Floral Design is a leading floral organization in the New York Metropolitan Area with our studio located in the Historic Flower District on 28th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues.  We have been honored by our audience as the most reviewed florist in New York City (consistently earning five stars), recognized by Citysearch and The Knot as the top florist in New York City for 2009 and 2010.

Flowers, Festivals and Celebrations.  It is what we do!

The Begining is Always Rough…

Flat Bamboo Tray of Roses by Starbright Floral Design
Flat Bamboo Tray of Roses by Starbright

While I have written many times on many different blogs – The begining is always wierd! The first entry! What in the world do you write about? How do you keep one’s interest? How do you create the aura of a blog that is in widely read by many? You simply do not!

Actually what you do, is you hope nobody visits your blog posting until you have at least a dozen or so entries and this one is buried deep in the page – so far down that nobody will scroll that far and want to read the first entry. This is where I get the salvation for these random sensles thoughts that are currently occupying pixels on the screen.

Anyway – Welcome to our wonderful world of flowers. Starbright Floral Design is located in the heart of New York City’s Historic Flower District. We have been here for the past fifteen years and we are having the time of our lives!

Stick around. We are not professional writers, but we will keep your interest. In the pages that will follow, you will find random thoughts about arranging flowers, what is in season, gift protocol, how to buy flowers in the farmer’s markets and much-much more!

If you have a bit of free time, please visit our website at http://www.starflor.com. Here you will gain a much broader perspective on who we are and the type of work that we do. We look forward to hearing from you and making our conversations as interactive as possible.

Give us a call, drop us a line, visit our website or send us a smoke signal – know we love you!
